Lisa wants to know what our favorite recipes are. In the interest of being a quick read, I've got a few pictures of my cookbooks and links to my recipes, which you are welcome to steal, however, if you win any contests with them, I want half the money ;-). Yes, they're that good. Okay, so here goes: My first cookbook my Aunt Willa put together for me, with the help of the rest of the family. Here it is:
It's very dear to me, I got all teary eyed when I got it, because I felt like a true woman of the family (for my wedding shower), and now that she's passed, it is much, much more valuable to me than ever before. I guess for last week, I should have put that I would grab it in a fire, because I probably would. Anyhow, you may not be able to tell, but it's bulging at the seams because it's so full. So I bought a new one ($15 from Hallmark Gold Crown stores, not online, sorry!) it comes with pre-printed tabs and pretty cards for the inside.
My way of doing recipes is typing them into the computer and printing them on unlined index cards. My mom has the "database" of recipes on her pc. I think I am going to get a backup copy and put it in a half a dozen places in case of accidental deletion. Yes, I love them that much!

Okay, now here's my "purchased cookbook". I go to it when I want to make something new and don't have a recipe already for it. From looking at it, I created my own spaghetti sauce recipe. Which I've now made 2 or 3 times and it worked out really well. Find it here.
I stole the brownie recipe from a bag of chocolate chips, but my hubby loves them so much that they're "my recipe" now, and it gets passed around when new brides get their family cookbooks.
My Aunt Esther's Barbecue Sauce recipe for chicken is AWESOME. It takes about 10 minutes to make and makes a LOT. It freezes well. As well as my mom's pizza sauce recipe. Awesome. Takes no time at all to make. I have been omitting the oil and just cooking it for 20 minutes or so instead of the hour. It takes less time and is healthier for you too! Finally, another recipe I usually send out is the Bubble Pizza recipe. No idea where I got it, but my hubby requests it often. Great for a "new cook" that wants to show off and please every palate. So there, now you know all about me and my secret recipe infatuation. Go play!

Sorry I haven't been around lately! It's been busy. I am so trying that bbq recipe. I love homemade bbq. The sentimental recipes, they just taste better. It's true what they say about making food with love makes it taste better. It does.
I'm hungry now. For BBQ. It's 8:13 am.
I love the cookbook idea for each woman as they get married. It's an awesome tradition :)
Something called Bubble Pizza just has to be good.
They all sound good, but the bubble pizza is would be a good, quick dinner for a busy Mom.
Thanks from this busy Mom! I'm gonna give it a try next week!
I love the cookbook idea too - I got one for a gift for my hope chest when I got engaged, I ended up adding lots of mum and grandma's recipes to it to perfect it!
I love the new bride with the family cookbook, so welcoming.
Thanks for posting so many different things!
That's such a special tradition to have for all the women in your family.
Now, I need to know...how do you print on index cards? That would be a handy trick.
My Aunt gave me a binder full of family recipes when I got married! I cherish it! Thank you so much for sharing all of those recipes!!!
Love those homemade cookbooks. That bubble pizza looks easy and fun (with fake meat of course) :-)
Hmm. I think pizza is always a good idea. Thanks for sharing.
I'll be sure to add you for next week's Fun Monday AND I'll put a reminder about including emails.
Cookbooks are an heirloom, I agree; I helped my former church in SC compile one and I bought extra copies for my children (it has some of my favorites included in it). The Better Homes cookbook is one of my favorite contemporary standards, too.
Aren't we partial to our favorite recipes? I like how you slipped several in (the Bubble Pizza is definitely memorable, at the very least, for its name!).
I don't have a program for recipe's but I do save them on my computer.
thats where bubble pizza is headed right now
Family cook books are very special, I have some amongst my 80+ cooking library but I also use the computer and have files for all the recipes I find on blogs. I've been saving a lot yesterday and today.
